VIDEO: San Francisco cop wears chicken costume for traffic enforcement detail

The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) recently took part in an unusual traffic enforcement effort involving a chicken costume.

On Monday, September 16, SFPD’s Lt. Jonathan Ozol wore a brightly colored chicken costume as part of a traffic enforcement activity at Alemany Boulevard and Rousseau Street.

According to SFGATE , Lt. Ozol wore the costume while trying to get across the street to see whether drivers would yield to pedestrians at crosswalks. Lt. Ozol would then signal to uniformed SFPD officers to perform a traffic stop if the driver failed to stop for him.

In February 2024, a male pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle at the intersection where the enforcement effort took place.

The chicken costume detail is part of San Francisco’s larger Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities.
