Regent rolls out $50M capital campaign to build 31-acre sport complex

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Regent University in Virginia Beach is looking to build a new 31-acre sports complex.

The announcement on Monday comes as the private Christian school seeks to join the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III level. They were approved for an exploratory year of Division III membership earlier this year.

“I am pleased to announce that Regent University is embarking on a strategic campus expansion that will advance our mission and vision,” said Regent Chancellor Gordon Robertson in a release. “These new facilities are not just designed to support the Regent Royals athletic program, but to give every Regent student a place to enjoy community and excel in their God-given abilities. Furthermore, we look forward to welcoming the Hampton Roads community and hosting sports tournaments in these world-class facilities.”

The new complex is expected to feature a 2,000-capacity, NCAA-certified basketball and volleyball competition court, a 400-meter track, baseball and softball fields and other facilities.
