Teen dies after stolen car crash in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said it is investigating a deadly crash that happened between two stolen cars in Southeast D.C. on Saturday.

Police said that at about 12:15 a.m., a stolen black 2016 Hyundai Elantra and a stolen white 2020 Hyundai Elantra were speeding in the 4300 block of Southern Ave.

The vehicles hit each other.

Man shot in Southeast DC

The black Hyundai Elantra stopped in the 4300 block of Southern Ave., while the white Hyundai Elantra hit a tree and stopped nearby.

All but one person in the vehicle left the area.

The remaining person, who was in the white Hyundai, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died at the hospital.

Police identified him as 16-year-old Kavonte Whatley of Northeast, D.C.
