Dart Container lays off 250 workers, including about 160 from Mason headquarters

MASON — Dart Container has laid off about 250 employees, including some 160 who worked out of its Mason headquarters.

The layoffs were needed to “balance administrative costs with current sales volumes and remain price competitive” and represent 2% of its overall workforce of 13,000, the company said in a news release announcing the job cuts.

Dart said it’s providing the former employees with “severance, a stipend for those enrolled in Dart medical plans” and services to help in job searches.

“Growth in the packaging industry has stagnated post-pandemic,” Dart CEO Keith Clark said in the release. “Many of our customers have experienced the impacts of inflation to their business, which affected their demand for food and beverage packaging. There’s also an influx of import competitors who are underpricing domestic manufacturers. In response, we had to make the extremely difficult decision to adjust our corporate workforce.”

The company, founded in 1960, said it currently has more than 30 locations in three countries.
