Piedmont Triad could see strong thunderstorms

(WGHP) — It will be warm and muggy with scattered showers this week.

Tuesday and Wednesday will include chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms. A few thunderstorms on Tuesday evening could be strong to severe. The main threat on Tuesday evening will be damaging wind gusts. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will be around 80 degrees. The chance of rain is 40%.

It will be mostly cloudy on Thursday with highs in the upper 70s. The chance of rain is 30%.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking what will likely become Tropical Storm Helene. The system is taking shape off of the coast of Mexico. The forecast calls for the cyclone to enter the Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane on Wednesday with a possible landfall along the Florida panhandle on Thursday. By Friday, the system could be near the upstate of South Carolina. If the system follows this path, rain is likely in the Piedmont on Friday. Friday’s highs will be in the upper 70s. The chance of rain is 80%.

What’s left of Helene will dissipate on Saturday. Our forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 70s. The chance of rain is 40%.
