UPDATE: Driver was going over 100 mph, lost control of vehicle, now in hospital after I-10 crash

UPDATE (6:58 p.m.): The Mobile Police Department has released more information after a police chase resulted in a crash on I-10 on Monday.

According to an MPD spokesperson, a deputy with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle on I-10 for driving at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was driving over 100 miles per hour when it passed a Mobile police officer using the outside emergency lane.

The vehicle passed motorists in the outside lane again and lost control at the Virginia Street exit when it lost control.

MPD said the vehicle slid across three lanes of traffic and hit the retaining wall in the median when it overturned.

Officials said the driver was alert and taken to a nearby hospital.

The investigation remains ongoing. News 5 will provide updates as more information becomes available.
