Two brothers arrested for allegedly murdering man as he pulled into his San Leandro driveway

( KRON ) — Three men were arrested on Sept. 19 in connection with a murder that happened in May in San Leandro, the San Leandro Police Department said. The victim was pulling into his driveway when he was shot in the neck with an assault rifle.

Anderson Choy, 53, was arriving at his home on the 1800 block of Benedict Drive at about 6:30 p.m. on May 5 when he was approached by two people, police said. The incident began as an attempted robbery, but one suspect fired a bullet into Choy’s car, which struck him in the neck.

Police used surveillance video and other evidence to identify the suspects as Erick Moreno, 18, and Mauricio Moreno, 28, a pair of brothers from Hayward. They were arrested on Thursday by SLPD.

A third suspect was also arrested for being an accessory, but he was released the same day. Police did not identify the suspect or expand on his role in the murder.

“This case is a testament to the tenacity and persistence of our detectives in seeking justice for the homicide victim,” said SLPD Lieutenant Abe Teng. “A lot of time was spent painstakingly gleaning evidence and conducting surveillance to build a case strong enough to go beyond just making arrests.”
