APD: Nine juveniles arrested in September school threat investigations

With reports of more than 30 area school threats being investigated so far this month, the Amarillo Police Department (APD) said nine juveniles have been taken into custody.

In September, members of APD’s Juvenile Unit, Schoo Resource Officers, Amarillo Independent School District’s police, Canyon ISD, and respective school districts have investigated over 30 various social media threats, false alarm reports, and terroristic threat reports directed to area schools, according to Amarillo police.

“Most of these reports were found to be false but some were intentionally posted on social media and shared to cause panic in our community and schools,” APD said. There were also statements made by students to get a reaction or draw attention.”

All threats made towards any school, students or staff is taken very seriously, APD said.

As a result of these threats and investigations, the APD Juvenile Unit has arrested nine juveniles from multiple campuses on charges of terroristic threat and false alarm/report.
