One person has died after a car submerged in a canal near Boca Falls Drive and Palmetto Park Road.
According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report, at 12:30 p.m. Monday a driver of a Honda Crosstour was traveling southbound on Boca Falls Drive and making a left turn to head eastbound onto Palmetto Park Road.
The driver failed to yield to the second vehicle, a Volkswagon Passat, causing the front of the Passat to impact the rear of the Crosstour.
The Honda ran off the roadway and into a lake and the driver of the car was able to climb out of the vehicle. The passenger, 69-year-old Joanne Sue Romano of Boca Raton, was trapped in the car for approximately 15 minutes before being rescued by Palm Beach County Fire.
Romano was transported to West Boca Medical Center and later died from injuries sustained during the crash.
PBCFR says three other people were taken to a local hospital, two with minor injuries and one with serious injuries.
