Driver of pickup accused of being drunk in deadly Lubbock Co. motorcycle crash

LUBBOCK, Texas — Dane Powell, 60, of Snyder, was arrested and accused of Intoxication Manslaughter with a Vehicle after a crash took the life of Danny Adam Vasquez, Sr., 49 , on Friday night.

Online jail records showed Powell was arrested at Highway 84 and County Road 7200 on Friday. According to public records, he has since posted bond as of Monday.

The Texas Department of Public Safety previously said Powell was driving a pickup truck in the center crossover of the highway. The DPS crash report stated Powell’s pickup was over the left lane of travel. According to the report, Vasquez was heading eastbound on a motorcycle in the left lane. The crash report said Vasquez struck the back of the pickup truck, and lost control.

Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene. Powell was not injured. The posted speed limit for that portion of the road was 75 mph. Vasquez was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to DPS.
