Woodburn celebrates groundbreaking of Fire Station 23

As the communities surrounding Woodburn expand, the local fire district is answering its own call to action: Stay prepared.

On Sept. 17, the Woodburn Fire District celebrated a significant milestone as they broke ground on Fire Station 23. The new station is located near Gervais and strategically placed on Butteville Road at the intersection of Jensen Road, just north of Gervais, aiming to better serve the small community and new development in southwest Woodburn.

“Everyone’s thrilled about it. This is the first new fire station that has been built in Woodburn for nearly 30 years, which is just really exciting,” said fire district Chief Joe Budge.

The district currently serves 40,0000 residents of Woodburn, Gervais and the surrounding 75 square miles of north Marion County, providing fire protection, prevention, emergency medical response and rescue services.

However, since the 2007 closure of the Gervais fire station, the district has been aiming to reestablish its regional coverage, Budge said.
