Demolition in downtown Beloit will pave way for riverwalk, future development

BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) — Crews have begun to demolish a vacant building on East Grand Avenue which will usher in future development.

According to the City, contractors began working to remove rooftop units on the building at 80-100 E. Grand, on the Rock River, on Monday ahead of a demolition and riverwalk construction project which is expected to be completed by summer 2025.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources required the existing 11,380 square foot structure be removed by 2042, due to extensive damage to the underwater structure.

The City said interior work was completed over the summer.

The City of Beloit is funding $500,000 for the riverwalk extension.

East Grand Development, LLC., a company overseen by billionaire and Beloit native Diane Hendricks, intends to build a 4-story, 48,000-square-foot building that could include a restaurant, commercial uses, office and residential use.
