Oscar winning designer Ruth E. Carter to visit Jamestown Settlement

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — Oscar winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter will visit Jamestown Settlement to discuss her exhibit “Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design.”

Carter will be joined by filmmaker and author Ytasha L. Womack for a conversation on Afrofuturism storytelling and the symbolism.

Womack’s work is featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture’s Afrofuturism exhibit and the Smithsonian’s documentary “Afrofuturism: An Origin Story.”

Those in attendance will be able to participate hands-on programs focused on fiber art and crafts related to the stories told through Ruth E. Carter’s costumes.
