Election Q&A: District 76 candidate Jim Blue on housing crisis, clean water, TV career

Democrat Jim Blue wants to change the focus in Tallahassee. That’s why he says he’s running for Florida’s House District 76.

“Tallahassee lawmakers have been consumed by distractions like ‘wokeness’ and drag queens,” Blue said in an earlier News-Press interview . “They’ve ignored important issues like the insurance crisis, affordable housing and the environment.

“I want to change the focus. I’ll work across the aisle for a bipartisan solution that eases re-insurance requirements and attracts more insurance companies to Florida. I’ll also work with our legislators in Washington to create a national solution that spreads the risk.”

Blue, 72, is competing against Republican candidate Vanessa Oliver to be state representative for the newly redrawn District 76. Oliver beat her Republican challenger , Steven Ceracche, in the August primary with more than 71 percent of the vote.

With no incumbent running, Florida’s House seat for District 76 is wide open this election year. November’s winner will fill the seat currently occupied by Republican Spencer Roach , who dropped out of the 2024 race in April.
