Luke Bendick, an American history instructor at Hopkinsville Community College, will talk about his research into the drinking habits of Civil War soldiers for the History on Tap program at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Hopkinsville Brewing Co.
“Drinking during the Civil War was a hotly contested issue on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line,” a spokesman for the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County said in a press release. “This lecture will discuss how different groups of Americans viewed the consumption of alcohol by enlisted men during the Civil War.”
The museum hosts a different History on Tap program every month at the brewery. It is a free series designed to share local stories in a relaxed setting.
Next month’s program — at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 — will be an interactive group discussion titled “I Remember the 1960s.” The program will explore what life was like for local teenagers during a decade of change.
