WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – West Des Moines is going to start paying substitute teachers more. The school board met Monday night to vote on the change. Under the old system, a substitute teacher would be paid $150 a day until they worked 15 days, at which point their pay would bump up to $170. Now, substitutes will make that on day one.
