BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) –The beauty of Mexican traditional dressing, plus the talent of equestrian sports. That mix makes the beautiful tradition of Escaramuzas.
In Bakersfield, a young group of girls is taking on this tradition. Ximena Garcia is the oldest and captain of the team, at just 7 years old.
“I love it,” said Garcia.

The trainer of the team, Yesenia Garcia, was born into being an Escaramuza.
“I’ve been an Escaramuza since I was 4 years old,” said Yesenia Garcia.
Garcia’s dad practiced Charreria, a love he brought from Jerez, Zacatecas. Garcia took on the task of continuing the family’s legacy in Bakersfield.
“It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t hard. There is a lot of little girls over here, it’s just finding the right ones,” said Yesenia Garcia, “I love continuing it because I see the passion they have in continuing that tradition. It’s rare! It’s rare to see Charreria sometimes.”
