New Mexico political shooting trial delayed amid alleged threats

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Video above:Solomon Peña is currently held in federal custody after federal prosecutors allege he orchestrated four shootings at the homes of elected officials from Dec. 4, 2022, to Jan. 3, 2023. He was arrested on Jan. 16, 2023. Federal prosecutors also allege that Peña’s motive was fueled by his loss in the 2022 midterm elections. The former New Mexico House of Representatives candidate’s trial was scheduled for Monday, Sept. 23, but was postponed due to alleged threats from Peña. As a result, his attorney, Elizabeth Ponce, withdrew from the case. KOAT legal expert John Day weighed in on what led to the decision.
