Fare evader with loaded gun stopped in Brooklyn: police

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — An armed man was apprehended following a fare evasion at a subway station in Brooklyn Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.

The incident happened at the Cortelyou Road station around 10:50 a.m.

The gun was located in the man’s possession during the investigation, police said.

Interim NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow released a statement following the arrest:

“Once again, it’s clear that when criminals take transit, they don’t pay. We are grateful to NYPD officers for stopping a fare evader at a subway station near Prospect Park—who turned out to be a criminal that repeatedly preyed on riders, and who was carrying a loaded gun. Those officers make New Yorkers safer, and help all of us feel safe on the subway.”
