NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – It’s well known around New Mexico but chances are you won’t find many books about Navajo cuisine. Now, a New Mexico-born woman is looking to change that by sharing generations of recipes in a new cookbook. “I’m just so excited to share my culture with the world,” said Alana Yazzie, cookbook author.

Alana Yazzie grew up cooking Navajo dishes with her mother as early as she can remember. Born and raised in Fruitland near Farmington, she said that family tradition is what she’s now sharing in a new and rare Navajo cookbook. “A lot of times when it comes to Native or Navajo culture, you know, a lot of these traditions are passed down orally so there’s not really a resource to open like a book,” said Yazzie.
