Mother struck by bullet in backseat of car on I-75; police searching for shooter

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect who shot into a vehicle on Saturday, killing a passenger.

The incident occurred just after 7 a.m. on Saturday on US-35 between Interstate 75 and James H. McGee Boulevard. Police say 26-year-old Jermea Lyle was in the backseat of a vehicle with her four-year-old daughter when a shot was fired from another vehicle, striking her.

Lyle’s boyfriend transported her to Miami Valley Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Dayton Police officers were dispatched to the hospital around 7:25 a.m. on a report of a person shot and began their investigation.

“We have pulled surveillance video from ODOT and things like that. We have camera coverage kind of covering here on I-75 southbound but what we don’t know is did some vehicles get on this ramp here where there is no camera coverage,” said Maj. Brian Jones.

Police are looking to talk with the driver of a blue Chevy Impala and another white vehicle that followed the driver, exiting onto Germantown Pike. At this time, they are unsure where the shooter came from.
