Knoxville could see flooding, thunderstorms this week, thanks to Tropical Storm Helene

Knoxville could get significant rainfall and severe thunderstorms this week thanks to Tropical Storm Helene.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Knoxville and other parts of East Tennessee from 11 a.m. Sept. 25 to 11 a.m. Sept. 26.

Sept. 24 has a 60% chance of thunderstorms and showers before 10 p.m. with up to an inch of total rainfall.

A 90% chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm on Sept. 25 could result in a half to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall. An 80% chance for showers and thunderstorms will continue overnight, according to the online NWS forecast.

Sept. 26 come with an 80% chance for showers and possibly thunderstorms, with a 100% chance of rain overnight. An 80% chance of heavy rain on Sept. 27 could be accompanied by wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour.

By the weekend, the chance of rain is expected to drop to just a 20%-40% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
