Woman charged with theft after allegedly taking gun from hotel room

EUGENE, Ore. – A woman is facing a charge of theft after allegedly taking a gun someone left in a hotel room with the intent to sell it, according to court documents. According to court documents, Eugene police officers were called to the Courtesy Inn on west Sixth Avenue in late August after a guest reported he had checked out but accidentally left his handgun behind. Court records said a hotel manager checked the lost and found, but did not see a gun, so she checked the security camera footage. Court documents said the security camera caught an employee of the hotel, identified as Shirly Lee Calder, 52, cleaning the guest’s room, leaving with a grocery bag, taking it to the break room, and putting it in her purse.
