Lowe’s employees volunteer to kick-start renovation project at TWi facility in Massillon

MASSILLON ‒ An army of Lowe’s employees descended upon The Workshops Inc. facility in the city Thursday morning, dressed in their recognizable red vests and armed with hammers and crowbars.

Thirty volunteers from the Massillon, Jackson Township and Mount Vernon stores joined forces with TWi employees and Mountain Contracting to demolish a portion of the Massillon facility, which serves individuals with developmental disabilities.

TWi received one of 100 grants provided by Lowe’s Hometowns, a five-year, $100 million community impact program to renovate and rebuild community spaces nationwide . This is the third year of funding provided by the initiative that aims to address needs specific to each community, from access to housing and community services to support for first responders and veterans. About 5,000 organizations applied for the funding.

Rachel Doty, TWi marketing manager, said the organization applied for the grant last fall and received word this summer it was awarded a $170,000 grant.
