Gov. Kevin Stitt is recovering from heart surgery and has returned to work, his spokesperson said Wednesday.
Stitt, 51, underwent intravenous surgery on Friday to repair a blockage in a main artery of his heart. Abegail Cave, the governor’s spokesperson, said doctors repaired the blockage with a stent.
“After a routine checkup, doctors discovered that Governor Stitt had significant blockage in a main artery,” Cave wrote in an email to The Oklahoman. “He underwent intravenous surgery on Friday where the doctors repaired the blockage with a stent.”
Cave said Stitt was doing well and returned to his office on Monday. Stitt shared a similar message on the social media site X Wednesday morning, thanking the doctors and nurses who cared for him as well as others who supported him.
“I hope you’ll take this as a reminder to schedule that check up and prioritize your heart health!,” the posting said.
Stitt said his surgery was performed at Oklahoma Heart Hospital South in southeast Oklahoma City.
