Explanation of Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles message: ‘You’re not a duck’

WRIC 8 News reported on the message made by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to Virginia pedestrians.

The organization simply said:

“You’re not a duck.”

Pedestrian Safety Month

DMV’s message ties in with a new, creative campaign launching for Pedestrian Safety Month in October. In a September 24 press release, the department explains that using tiny ducklings to highlight a serious message will reduce pedestrian injuries and deaths in Virginia.

DMV commissioner Gerald Lackey, the Governor’s highway safety representative, said:

“Ducklings are undeniably adorable and naturally command our attention, but people crossing the street deserve just as much of our focus. Our campaign is designed to make this comparison stick in a fun and memorable way.”

According to the DMV, the “You’re Not A Duck” campaign will be shared across Virginia through the middle of October. It will be on TV, social and digital media platforms, the radio, billboards, buses, and community events.
