Gunman wearing full body armor arrested in Raleigh neighborhood pointing rifle in ‘all directions,’ warrant says

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Police Tuesday evening arrested a gunman in camouflage who was roaming around a Raleigh neighborhood wearing full body armor and pointing a rifle in “all directions” while looking through the scope, officers and an arrest warrant said.

The incident was reported by “multiple calls from the community” around 7:15 p.m. along Ward Road near Glenridge Road, according to a news release from the Raleigh Police Department.

Michael Joseph Chadwick, 31, who lives along Glenridge Road, was arrested and charged with going armed to the terror of the public, police and arrest records said. The neighborhood is just off Brentwood Road between Atlantic Avenue and Capital Boulevard.

“The motive or intent of the subject is unknown at this time,” Raleigh Police Lt. Jason Borneo said in the news release.

An arrest warrant said Chadwick was “walking around [the] neighborhood with full body armor, gun belt with ammunition, handgun in the holster on his gun belt and rifle with strap across his body.”
