ROCKFORD, Ill. — A suspect in a Rockford murder has turned himself in, the city’s Police Department reported late Tuesday night.
Demond Curry, 29, of Machesney Park was identified by detectives as the suspect in the murder of a 26-year-old woman last Wednesday, Sept. 18, according to Rockford police. He’s currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail and is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
Rockford police say officers responded to the 1700 block of North Rockton Avenue in Rockford just before 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 18 for reports of shots fired and a female gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to an area hospital, where she died.

Curry was known to the victim, according to police.
