Air travel impacted by the hurricane

PUNTA GORDA — Will Punta Gorda Airport close due to Hurricane Helene?

The answer Wednesday was a maybe.

At 50 mph winds, aircraft operations, runways and towers at the Punta Gorda Airport will close as Hurricane Helene impacts air travel.

Punta Gorda Airport will remain open as long as conditions are safe, according to airport officials.

The airport parking lots are open. Customers can park and/or pick up their vehicles. Parking fees will not be waived.

On Wednesday, roads through Punta Gorda Airport, and its runways, were open as long as conditions are safe.

“We continue to follow recommendations from Charlotte County Emergency Management,” said Kaley Miller, airport spokesperson on Wednesday afternoon. “Punta Gorda Airport’s management and operations teams are working to secure the airport property and make preparations for potential impacts from tropical weather.”

Allegiant travelers should call the airline for updates.

“If you have an upcoming flight, check your email for updates from Allegiant and check our Arrivals/Departures page,” Miller said.
