CARUTHERS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The annual Caruthers District Fair is back in town offering free concerts, prize drawings, and more.
Since 1923 the fair has been a beloved tradition and a rich part of the City of Caruthers’ history.
According to their website , the fair was created to promote Caruthers’ rich industry, the fair enjoyed a few rich years before being discontinued during World War II. At that time the fairgrounds were reportedly used as an emergency labor camp.
Following the war’s end, the fair’s website says a group of men called the Young Farmers reestablished the event.
The 1946 return of the event was deemed a huge success and in the years since, it has become a favorite tradition for visitors and those who call Caruthers home.
On opening day, the opening ceremonies and the queen coronation will grace the main stage.
