Investigation underway after 2 injured in shooting in Grand Crossing

CHICAGO — An investigation is underway on Wednesday afternoon after two people were injured in a shooting on the city’s South Side.

According to Chicago police, the shooting unfolded around 2 p.m. in the 7800 block of South Maryland Avenue in Grand Crossing.

Police said one of the victims, a 26-year-old man, was standing on a sidewalk in the area when he suffered a gunshot wound to his right foot.

The man took himself to the hospital where he was listed in good condition.

A second victim injured in connection with the shooting, a male whose age has not been determined, later took himself to the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. He was listed in critical condition.

Authorities said no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting and an investigation is underway.

WGN SkyCam9 was over the scene around 4:10 p.m. when some CPD officers could be seen canvassing an area near a gas station at the intersection of East 79th Street and South Maryland Avenue.
