Teen charged in fentanyl overdose death found guilty of criminally negligent homicide

UPDATE (3:35 p.m.): News 5 is continuing to gather more information about the guilty verdict of a teenager in a fentanyl overdose death case.

Jury deliberation lasted 90 minutes and the only question they asked was what manslaughter is.

He was found guilty of criminally negligent homicide and possession of a controlled substance.

Both charges are a lesser charge than what he originally was presented with.

SEMMES, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A 19-year-old has been found guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the fentanyl overdose death of a Semmes teenager in 2022.

A jury found Jackson Lewis guilty Wednesday after two days of testimony. Jury selection began on Monday.

The trial comes after Lewis was arrested and charged with manslaughter after he gave a pill laced with fentanyl to 15-year-old Adrianna Taylor.

Adrianna was found dead at a home in Semmes due to an overdose on Aug. 30. Lewis is being tried as an adult.

During testimony, a 21-year-old witness who was at the home with Adrianna when she died said he, Lewis and Taylor were all doing drugs at Lewis’s grandmother’s house that day.
