Police: Rockford woman punches nursing home resident, attempts to steal his money

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Sarah Thornton-Berry, 21, on September 25, for allegedly punching an elderly man in the head while attempting to steal money from him.

On May 29th, around 1 p.m., officers responded to Rock River Healthcare for a report of a strongarm robbery. The victim told police the incident happened inside a Toyota in the Fire Department Coffee parking lot.

Thornton-Berry picked the elderly man up in the area of Newburg and Arnold and took him to cash a check at the bank, according to reports.

After cashing the check, the suspect asked him for $100 and he gave it to her, police said. Thornton-Berry asked for more money but the man denied her, according to court records.

The suspect parked her car in the Fire Department Coffee, punched the victim in the head and tried to take the money he withdrew, reports said. The man eventually regained control of the bag holding his money and she dropped him back off at Rock River Healthcare, according to authorities.
