THE LATEST:
The GFS and the Euro Hurricane models show a minor shift in Hurricane Helene’s track to the east.
The National Hurricane Center’s forecast still has the hurricane’s eye — which has officially closed — passing over Tallahassee.
When a hurricane’s eye closes, that usually indicates a hurricane is rapidly intensifying, according to forecasters.
Currently, Hurricane Helene has winds sustained at 105 mph, placing it as a Category 2 storm.
Experts say there is a possibility it strengthens to a Category 4 before landfall.
