Why Donte Deserves Better Odds for Sixth Man Award

The New York Knicks have a loaded roster regarding guards and wings. Donte DiVincenzo started 63 games last season. However, by Leon Rose trading for Mikal Bridges, one of the Villanova brothers has to make a lineup sacrifice. From what the oddsmakers say, DiVincenzo will take the graceful bow to the bench. However, as one of the more dynamic guards, he could win an award for his sacrifice.

DraftKings listed Donte DiVincenzo as having the fourth-most favorable odds of winning the Sixth Man of the Year award at +1200. Last season, Donta DiVincenzo averaged a career-high 15.5 points, shooting 40 percent from behind the 3-point line on a high-volume 8.7 attempts. DiVincenzo is a legitimate starter in the NBA.

However, as the first player off the bench, he offers the Knicks a relief most teams wish their sixth man could provide. As an above-average offensive player and an average defender, at least regarding percentages and opponents’ shooting marks, DiVincenzo has a higher chance of winning the award than the oddsmakers suggest.
