NC National Guard members activated in western, central NC for Helene

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The North Carolina National Guard has activated 175 members to sites in Western and Central North Carolina in response to Hurricane Helene, Queen City News has confirmed with public affairs officials.

A North Carolina National Guard media advisor confirmed with Queen City News that the personnel will be manning sites in Charlotte, Morganton, and Asheville as well as Greensboro, Rockingham, and Burlington.

The hurricane, now a category 2, is expected to make landfall Thursday night along the Florida panhandle.

Personnel involving Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) like engineers, infantry, and military police are among those that will be activated in response to the storm.

Swift Water Rescue teams have also been deployed, including some personnel from other states including Kentucky.
