Cobb Declares Local State of Emergency, Closes Offices

Chairwoman Lisa Cupid has declared a State of Emergency for Cobb County in preparation for Hurricane Helene.

This declaration will allow the county to quickly access state and federal resources that may be needed after the storm passes, said Cobb County Government officials.

Cobb County is currently under a tropical storm warning issued by the National Weather Service.

The hurricane is expected to bring the county 60 mph winds and heavy rain Friday, said officials.

All Cobb County offices, including the police department headquarters and all county public libraries, will be closed through Friday due to weather conditions caused by Helene.

County Manager Jackie McMorris ordered the closure of all county facilities at noon on Thursday. The closure will remain in effect through at least 11:59 p.m. Friday.

Cobb libraries will reopen on Saturday.

All emergency responders, including 911, Department of Transportation, police and fire personnel, will remain on duty to handle storm-related calls.
