Hurricane Helene weather in Naples, Collier: What to expect today as storm race by in Gulf

Strong rain bands will work their way onto the Collier County coast this morning as Hurricane Helene passes to the north and through warm waters of the Gulf Mexico.

Winds along the coast are expected to be around 25 mile per hour during the early morning hours, with the direction coming from the southeast.

Heavy rain bands and thunderstorms will be just offshore of the Collier County area by 5 a.m.

Steady rains are expected throughout the area all day as Hurricane Helene is a large storm.

More severe rains bands should hit the area by 10 a.m., when winds will still be clocking out of the southeast at around 35 miles per hour along the coast.

Storm surge will be at its strongest in the afternoon, evening hours

Strong onshore winds will hit the region in the afternoon hours, bringing the greatest threat of storm surge.

Two-to-4 feet of storm surge are expected for the Naples area.

Heavy rains will persist until at least 5 p.m., when onshore winds are expected to push some ocean water onto land.
