UC Irvine Takes the Lead: Cal-Bridge Program Aims to Diversify California’s STEM Workforce

Irvine, Calif., Sept. 25, 2024 – The University of California, Irvine (UCI) has officially become the new administrative headquarters for the Cal-Bridge program, a pioneering initiative dedicated to enhancing the representation of traditionally underrepresented groups within California’s higher education and technology workforce. As Cal-Bridge enters its second decade, its impact on aspiring STEM scholars is more vital than ever.

Cal-Bridge co-founder Alexander Rudolph, who recently transitioned from his faculty role at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, to the UC Irvine School of Physical Sciences, underscores the importance of this move. “UC Irvine has been the most strongly engaged in Cal-Bridge,” he stated, highlighting the university’s extensive involvement through its Office of Inclusive Excellence and robust support from the Department of Physics & Astronomy. “More Cal-Bridge scholars have been accepted into Ph.D. programs at UCI than at any other UC campus,” he added, demonstrating UCI’s commitment to fostering a diverse academic community.
