New Costco in San Jose closer to final approval despite community pushback

SAN JOSE, Calif. ( KRON ) — A proposed Costco location in West San Jose is one step closer to being built. Despite pushback from the community regarding traffic safety, the city’s planning commission still gave the approval for Costco to move on to the next step, which is talking with the city council.

The proposed new Costco location in the South Bay is near an upscale shopping center off Prospect Road at the border of San Jose and Saratoga.

On Wednesday night, residents in the area attended the commission meeting, arguing that the megastore could be deadly for kids attending school in the area.

In response, city officials said the plan is to double the path of travel on the west side of Lawrence Expressway by 4 to 8 feet and improve crosswalks.

Officials at the high school nearby said that’s not enough.

The store would bring 250 to 300 jobs to San Jose, according to Costco.
