Harris Targets Black Voters With Maternal Health Focus

Additional Coverage:

Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining support from Black women voters, who are motivated by her focus on healthcare, gun control, and reproductive rights.

This enthusiasm is crucial for Democratic turnout in battleground states, where Black women are a reliable voting bloc. In 2020, their support for Biden was waning, but since Harris became the nominee, it has increased significantly.

Harris’ attention to maternal mortality and her support for expanding postpartum Medicaid coverage resonate with Black women, who face higher rates of pregnancy-related complications and limited access to quality healthcare.

She also supports gun safety measures, including banning assault weapons and implementing universal background checks, which appeals to Black women concerned about gun violence in their communities.

Trump, on the other hand, has focused on economic policies to attract Black women voters. However, only 8% of Black women say the Republican Party represents their interests better.

Harris’ supporters believe her focus on issues important to Black women, such as healthcare and gun violence, will help her win the election.
