Oklahoma Executes Inmate Despite Clemency Recommendation

Emmanuel Littlejohn was executed in Oklahoma on Thursday, despite a state clemency board’s vote to spare his life.

Littlejohn was convicted of murder in 1992, but claimed his accomplice fired the fatal shot. The clemency board agreed with his claim and voted for clemency, but Governor Kevin Stitt overruled their decision.

Littlejohn’s case has raised concerns about the fairness of the death penalty, as his accomplice received a life sentence without parole while he was sentenced to death.

Despite last-minute legal challenges and protests from activists, the execution went ahead.

Littlejohn’s family and supporters have expressed outrage, calling the execution a miscarriage of justice.
