A boater and a dog were rescued in “good health” off a disabled vessel near Sanibel, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, authorities found the disabled boat 25 miles off the coast of Sanibel. Officials said the mayday call came in around 11 a.m. Thursday.

Officials said the boater — whose gender they couldn’t confirm — and their dog were brought to Southwest Florida International Airport.

Keily Delerme, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Sanibel remained about 163 miles in the clear of Helene. The storm came the closest to the barrier island around 3 p.m. Thursday.
