South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on Wednesday to prepare for Hurricane Helene.
Many businesses, libraries, and government offices are closing, and festivals and events have been postponed in the Upstate. Local authorities advise residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel until the storm passes.
Here is a list of closures and postponed events in the Upstate.
Greenville County
–The City of Greenville Sanitation Department said that Friday’s schedule will resume as normal. However, residents are advised to stay updated in case of any changes due to Hurricane Helene.
–All Greenville County Libraries will close at 6 p.m. Thursday and remain closed Friday, September 27, due to anticipated severe weather from Hurricane Helene.
–The Greenville Zoo is closed on Thursday and Friday. The animals are safe, dry, and indoors.
–Greenville Community Center afterschool programs, youth soccer and pickleball leagues, and all Prisma Health Welcome Center events at Unity Park are canceled.
