FIRST WARN FORECAST: Hurricane Helene deals strike to southern U.S., tracks well east of Kansas City

Hurricane Helene makes landfall in the Big Bend of Florida tonight as a very powerful and very large Category 4 hurricane. Extreme wind, storm surge, and inland flooding threaten many Americans overnight, with early Friday seeing a rare hurricane well inland from the coast. Because Helene is moving very quickly, it won’t have time to decay quickly as most hurricanes do. Rather, it will drive inland fast enough to bring potential category 2 impacts to southern and central Georgia. It’s a close call for Atlanta, where near-hurricane conditions are possible early Friday.
