Nathan Fletcher under investigation for possible campaign finance violations tied to legal defense

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Embattled former Supervisor Nathan Fletcher is facing a new investigation tied to the sexual misconduct allegations that led to his ouster.

California’s campaign finance oversight commission has opened an investigation into claims Fletcher improperly used campaign funds from his defunct bid for State Senate to support his defense in the lawsuit accusing him of sexual harassment and assault.

The former supervisor dropped out of the race to enter treatment for alcohol abuse and post-traumatic stress days before the lawsuit from his accuser, former Metropolitan Transit System public relations specialist Grecia Figueroa, was made public in March of 2023.

By that point, his candidate-controlled campaign finance committee had collected over $1 million in donations for his run to seek higher office in the state legislature.

A number of these donations were ultimately returned, campaign finance disclosures show . However, the disclosures also show several payments were made from Fletcher’s committee for legal services after he was no longer a candidate.
