TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News)-Kitt Peak National Observatory will celebrate 60 years of public tours on September 27, after a period of extended closure due to various challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the facility to shut its doors in 2020, and the Contreras Fire of 2022 threatened the observatory and its surrounding areas, so public access to Kitt Peak has been limited for over three years. Now, Kitt Peak has resumed regular operations, offering daytime, night, and overnight tours 362 days a year.
