Old Savannah City Mission

As the outer raggedy fringes of Hurricane Helene begin to move over Savannah with high winds and heavy rain forecasted for later Thursday, those seeking daytime shelter are welcome to hunker down in Old Savannah City Mission.

Old Savannah City Mission, 2414 Bull St., is opening its doors to provide extended daytime shelter for individuals experiencing homeless, as well as additional overnight shelter for those looking a place to sleep. The Mission is also seeking financial donations for additional meals, electricity and other expenses, as well as blankets, towels, socks and rain gear.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve had to gear up for bad weather,” said Development Director Keith Picklesimer. “We prepared a few months ago for a tropical storm. It was good practice. We always want to be prepared to provide people with a safe, dry place to stay.”
