Tree falls on James Island apartment complex during Tropical Storm Helene

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Fire Department responded to a James Island apartment complex after a tree fell on a residence due to the effects of Tropical Storm Helene

Authorities arrived around 4:30 a.m. Friday to the 20th block of Rivers Point Row.

Crews discovered half the tree was resting on the residence. Charleston Fire reported that just a few minutes later the other half had fallen into the parking lot.

“This incident highlights the importance of maintaining a safe distance from damaged trees, as even partially downed trees can shift or fall unexpectedly,” said officials with the Charleston Fire Department.

All occupants safely exited the residence.
