Hurricane Helene made landfall in North Florida Thursday night as a category 4 hurricane but the damage continues inland. The center of the remnant hurricane is moving rapidly into Kentucky and Tennessee and this is causing widespread heavy rain and flash flooding from Western North and South Carolina into Tennessee and Kentucky. in some places the the rainfall is catastrophic in nature with 1 foot plus rainfall amounts quiet common. Additional rainfall amounts of 6 to 10 inches are possible on top of the rain that has already fallen.
We also have severe thunderstorm and highly elevated tornado risks to contend with today and Helene has produced numerous tornadoes across the Southeast US into Florida. That risk continues today with the possibiltiy of tornadoes at a 10 percent risk rate across much of North Carolina and Southern Virigina.

The remnant low of Helene will meander in the Tennessee and Lower Ohio Valley through the weekend and this bring heavy rain risk and flash flooding across much of this area into Monday. Finally a cold front next week will drop out of the Plains and move eastward and that should finally bring general improvement across much of this area during the middle and latter portion of next week.
